But something God wants to cultivate in each of us His daughters.

What Does the Bible Say About Waiting on God?
The Bible tells us that God’s way is perfect. That includes His timing. For every thing! Even that thing you and I are waiting for right now.
God’s Word is full of stories of people waiting on God. Some waited well, and others did not. Whenever I think of a positive example of waiting on God, I think of David. God told David that he would be king. And David believed God. For years! David waited and waited for the fulfilment of God’s will.
David didn’t just passively wait, though. He was determined to wait. He actively waited, standing up to those who counseled him to take matters into his own hands against King Saul…who was trying to kill David! David could have killed Saul three times! But chose to wait on God and God’s perfect timing and way. David went to great lengths, even exiling himself, in order to not go against God’s will.
How willing are we to wait? Would I be as determined to keep myself out of God’s way as David was?
Waiting on God involves faith enough to stay out of His way.
God promises great blessing to those who wait for Him. The wait is worth it!
- Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.
- Lamentations 3:25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Bible Verses About What To Do While Waiting on God
You may be wondering whether waiting on God means that you simply sit and wait. But that is not the case. There are several things you can do as you wait for God’s timing. Bible verses about waiting on God tell us to…
Continue to trust God. And rest.
As you wait, take courage. God cannot lie, and will perform all His will and Word. Trust that He is God and knows exactly what is going on and what His plans are. And the best course of action. And will reveal to us what we need to know and do when it is the right time to do so. And then rest. Rest in Him and His sure promises.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- Psalms 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Continue to obey what you know.
While you wait for God to help in one area of your life, be sure to continue to obey Him in the ways you already know to do. Don’t let the waiting tempt you to murmur and rebel against God. Remember Israel. Ask the Lord to help you keep your thoughts on Him and His truth.
- Psalms 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
- Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
- Psalms 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
Don’t compare your life with others.
Don’t allow yourself to look around at others and what God may or may not be doing in their lives. But, rather, keep “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our (your) faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
- Psalms 123:2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
Remember God’s faithfulness in the past.
Remember past deliverances and miraculous answers to prayer! I’ve seen God answer prayers in amazing ways in my own life after waiting for many years.
I’m still waiting for answers to other prayers. But being able to look back at what God has already done in my life and the lives of others I’ve prayed for gives me strength to continue to trust and wait for God’s timing and perfect way in my current struggles.
- Matthew 16:9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
Consequences of Not Waiting on God
As a whole mankind is not very good at waiting on God or waiting in general. Are you one of those rare people others would think of as a patient person? I’m trying to be, but fail too often.

The Bible tells of many who got tired of waiting on God and got ahead of God. But the one that stands out to me the most is Abraham and Sarah. God promised them a son, but after ten years and no child, they took matters into their own hands. And Ishmael was born to Abraham and Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid. This impatience produced thousands of years of conflict and wars between Ishmael (Arabs) and Isaac’s descendants (Israel) to this day!
And while it would be 25 years that Sarah waited to have the son God had promised…the fact remains that God DID keep His promise! And God will keep His promise to hear our prayers and deliver us, too…in HIS time!
- Psalms 34:17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
Drawing nigh to Him,
Teresa
